Army Chooses Alexandria For 6,400 New Jobs

The Army has selected the undeveloped Mark Center property in Alexandria as the site for Washington Headquarters Services.

The announcement came yesterday, ending a selection process that began more than a year ago. The two other sites that were considered were Alexandria’s Victory Center and the GSA Warehouses in Springfield. Both of these sites are a half-mile from metro stations. The wooded Mark Center Property is four miles from the nearest metro station.

Natural Gas Leak At Edsall And Pickett

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday night, Sept. 27, Alexandria Fire and EMS units responded to a report of a natural gas odor at the intersection of South Pickett and Edsall Road. The area was investigated, and it was determined that the odor was coming from a leaking valve on a high-pressure natural gas line.

Police Seek Explanation For Bullet Hole In Cruiser

At around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday night, an Alexandria police officer was in his cruiser in the 3600 block of Commonwealth Avenue. The officer heard a loud noise and got out of his car to investigate. He found a bullet hole in the rear of his car. Although the officer and other members of the Department investigated, they found no gun or any other explanation for the incident.

Former CIA Exec Pleads Guilty To Fraud

A former Central Intelligence Agency Executive Director pled guilty this morning of defrauding the United States and faces up to 20 years in prison. Kyle “Dusty” Foggo, 53, of Vienna, admitted in U.S. District Court in Alexandria that he had abused his authority by influencing the CIA to hire companies and individuals with whom he had concealed his personal relationships.

Police Seek Armed Robbery Suspect

The Alexandria police are still looking for an armed man who entered the CVS store on Monroe Avenue this morning and demanded money.
