Alexandria, Virginia, has been named as one of the “Top 10 Christmas Towns” by HGTV. Known for its holiday parade, decorations and festivities, the City will be featured during the show broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. on HGTV.
Alexandria was chosen for its annual celebration of the town’s Scottish heritage with the Campagna Center’s Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend and the Burke & Herbert Holiday Boat Parade of Lights, the annual light show on the Potomac River.
The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend includes a tour of homes, the Christmas Marketplace with the traditional sale of heather and greens and the Scottish Walk parade, which begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, with Scottish clans dressed in tartans and playing bagpipes.
The Burke & Herbert Holiday Boat Parade of Lights sets sail on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, with 50 powerboats and sailboats parading down the Potomac River from Washington, D.C., to Alexandria fully decked out in holiday spirit and cheer. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. at the Alexandria marina with entertainment, live music and Santa. The boats are scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m.
Other cities included in the HGTV top 10 list are North Pole, AK; New Orleans, LA; San Antonio, TX; Woodstock, VT; Kennebunkport, ME; and Durango, CO.
