T.C. Athletes Compete in Basketball, Track Events; Wrestler Finishes Third in State

The T.C. Williams High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team and several members of the Boys and Girls Indoor Track Teams will compete in special events this weekend.

In varsity basketball action, the Titan Boys will take on the Lake Braddock  Bruins at 9 tonight in the Northern Region Semifinals at the Patriot Center at George Mason University, off Braddock Road in Fairfax. A win tonight would put the Titans into the regional final at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Patriot Center.

The T.C. Williams Indoor Track Teams will compete in the State Championships, starting at 4 p.m. today and continuing at 9 a.m. Saturday in the George Mason University Recreation Sports Complex (Fieldhouse). The teams hope to continue the impressive performances they began at last weekend’s Regional Championships, when the girls took home second place and the boys finished in fifth place. In last weekend’s competition, Tynita Butts led the Titans with four first-place finishes and Eva Baker took the pole vault. The girls also won the 4-by-200-meter relay. Tommy Clark and Frank Afriye gained first-place finishes, and Jamal Ford and Marc Grosser had solid finishes to score team points for the Titans. In other T.C. Williams athletics news, senior wrestler Quintas McCorkle finished third in the State Wrestling Tournament held in Portsmouth. McCorkle successfully defended his Patriot District and Northern Regional Championships in the heavyweight division and went undefeated in the regular season. As a T.C. Williams football player, he was First-Team All-Patriot District. He is considering George Mason University or American University for college next year.
