For those of us who have noticed how bike riders have taken over the streets of Alexandria, particularly in Old Town, beware!!! These bike riders go through stop signs, red lights and whatever they can get away with on our streets, while the Alexandria Police dept. watches them and does nothing to ticket them for breaking the law. So to all of us car drivers, who respect the law for driving, which also apply to bike riders, it is time to rise up and demand that the Alexandria police dept. give them the same tickets drivers would receive for breaking the law. We drivers have tried to make sure no bike riders are hit, but you can be sure as they try and claim the streets, someone will get hurt. If bike riders want to ride on our streets, they must abide by the same Virginia laws that apply to cars. Alexandria has some great bike paths and that’s where these folks should be riding their bikes. Alexandria streets are not wide enough for cars and bikes and it is against the law to ride a bike on the sidewalk.
Auto drivers – it’s time to unite!! And Alexandria Police Chief Cook, it is time to tell your officers to start giving tickets.
