Since 1999, Susan Kellom has served as the chair of the Alexandria Democratic Committee. When ADC elects officers in January, however, Kellom’s name will not be among those nominated to be the Party’s leader.

Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine has set Tuesday, January 12, 2010, as the date for voters in the 37th Senatorial District and the 8th Senatorial District to participate in special elections to select a successor to Senator Kenneth Cuccinelli in the 37th and Senator Kenneth Stolle in the 8th.
As Republicans Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and Ken Cuccinelli won Virginia’s three top offices by more than 20 points, Alexandria elected three Democratic members of the House of Delegates and gave Creigh Deeds, Jody Wagner and Steve Shannon one of their few victories.
This morning dawned bright and cold, the perfect day for an election in Alexandria.
The campaign that began, in some cases, more than two years ago is over. Now, it’s the voters’ turn to speak.
On Tuesday, November 3, Virginia voters will go to the polls to elect local and statewide candidates. Alexandrians have the opportunity to vote for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, three members of the House of Delegates, Commonwealth Attorney, and Sheriff.
Voters who wish to apply for an absentee ballot for the Nov. 3, election, must do so by close of business on Tuesday, Oct. 27. In-person absentee voting will continue at the Office of the Registrar, 132 N. Royal Street, through Saturday, Oct. 31.
On Nov. 3, Alexandrians will elect a sheriff, a Commonwealth’s attorney and three members of the Virginia House of Delegates. In addition, statewide, voters will choose a new governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Sengel are running unopposed.
With the November election just over three weeks away, Alexandria election officials are dealing with changes in the voter roles and a computer glitch that will require them to count all mailed absentee ballots on Election night.
The legal deadline to register to vote in the November 3, General Election for Governor is Monday, October 5 at 5 p.m. Mail registration applications must be postmarked October 5. The Voter Registration Office at 132 N. Royal St. in Old Town Alexandria will be open on Saturday, October 3, for voter registration.
