Last week, James Cullum and I got a taste of what a water aerobics class entails when Ellen Jones, the aquatics supervisor at the Alexandria YMCA, designed a class just for us. First, we got in the water and stretched our muscles by treading water and doing some basic exercises. Then, we put on our flotation belts and our water shoes.
It has been three weeks since I began making my way back to fitness. This week, I continued my daily workouts at the Y and started morning sit-ups and lunges at home…I have to work harder on the abs.
On Thursday, I added some variety to my fitness routine by going on a bike ride with my friend Scott Newsham.
Like so many of my women friends, I was very active as a child, teenager and young adult. I assumed that I would always weigh 124 pounds and wear a size six. Then I turned 30 and had children-three by the time I was 36. When they were young, I was still physically active although I had a sedentary job. We camped, hiked, went swimming and walked a lot.
