Archives: ‘Titan Talk’

Today, I met Carla and Rebecca at Carla’s house and we began working immediately. Rebecca and I added a new section to our prom story about transportation. We also looked over my garden story and my pictures that Regan had recently added. It looked really nice! Carla said that the story will go in the portfolio that I will make at the end of my internship. It’s exciting to think that my work at this internship could possibly help me make a career for myself in the future.

Getting There
Getting from place to place on prom night is almost as important as your date. It is essential, then, to select your transportation very carefully.

I spent the first half of the day at Carla’s house with her and Rebecca. We went over a few things like posting up an article to go with my pictures from the Learning Gardens. We also worked on my prom story and chose some prom dress pictures to go along with the article.

Dressing For The Prom
The planning for prom can start as early as three months before the actual event. In early March, to avoid buying the same prom dress, T.C. senior girls created a group on Facebook with links to the dresses they chose. Strapless dresses seem to be a popular trend this year, particularly ones by designer Nicole Miller.

On Saturday, I did a little extra work for my internship. I met with Regan at the G.W. Middle School football field and we covered the Mayor’s Cup Challenge Match, a rugby match between Alexandria and our sister city, Dundee, Scotland.

I met with Carla and James once again at Carla’s house. We spent the morning checking email, discussing some recent breakthroughs on different stories, and finishing up my article on prom. Around 11:30, I headed down to Cora Kelly where I met Regan, the alexandrianews.org photographer.

With just over two weeks until prom, T.C. Williams High School seniors and their dates are scrambling to finish last minute planning for dresses, tuxes, dinner, and other essentials. The prom will be held on Saturday, June 13th, from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Crystal City. Tickets are currently on sale for $55.

Today I met James and Rebecca at Carla’s house. We immediately began setting up my Titan Talk blog and inserting my first two posts. Then Carla and James needed to spend time working on a big story, so Rebecca and I took some time to focus on a joint piece we were writing about T.C. Williams prom…
