Statement Of Governor Kaine On Continuing Weather Emergency

Governor Timothy M. Kaine issued the following statement today regarding the ongoing weather emergency in Virginia and across parts of the northeast:

“With the winter storm emergency in full effect and snowfall continuing in regions throughout the Commonwealth, Virginia authorities are working in close coordination to ensure public safety and address particularly tough conditions in a number of communities. Following on my declaration yesterday of a state of emergency for the Commonwealth, I have authorized an additional 600 National Guardsmen to participate in our response to the storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for ALexandria until 6 p.m. today. A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

Arlington Man Arrested For Unlawful Videotaping, Dies In Jail

Paul Antonio Calva, 44, of Arlington, was found dead in his cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center last night. He was arrested on Saturday at Fair Oaks Mall and was charged with two counts of unlawful filming, videotaping, or photographing of another after allegedly video taping a woman in the dressing room of a specialty store.
