It’s Your Choice

On Nov. 3, Alexandrians will elect a sheriff, a Commonwealth’s attorney and three members of the Virginia House of Delegates. In addition, statewide, voters will choose a new governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Sengel are running unopposed. Adam Ebbin, the incumbent Democrat in the 49th Virginia House District, is also unopposed.

In the other two House races, incumbent Democrat David Englin is being challenged by Republican Vicki Vasques in the 45th, and incumbent Democrat Charnielle Herring is being challenged by Republican Sasha Gong in the 46th.

Voters had an opportunity to listen to candidates in the 45th and 46th respond to questions at a candidate brunch on Sunday. The event was sponsored by The Beth El Brotherhood and B’nai Brith Uriah P. Levy Lodge. All of the candidates oppose HOT lanes on I-395; all support funding public education, although their methods differ; only Englin said that he would vote to increase the gasoline tax by ten cents a gallon; and all agree that the Commonwealth is facing budget and transportation problems that must be solved.
