Kaine Sets Date For Senate Special Elections

Special elections in 37th and 8th Senatorial districts to be held January 12, 2010

Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine has set Tuesday, January 12, 2010, as the date for voters in the 37th Senatorial District and the 8th Senatorial District to participate in special elections to select a successor to Senator Kenneth Cuccinelli in the 37th and Senator Kenneth Stolle in the 8th.

“The citizens of these districts deserve to have their interests represented in the upcoming session of the General Assembly,” Kaine said. “Holding these special elections on January 12 will give interested candidates time to introduce themselves to the people they hope to represent, and give voters an opportunity to make an informed decision on their next Senator.”

The 37th Senatorial District includes part of Fairfax County and the 8th Senatorial District includes part of the City of Virginia Beach. The deadline for candidates to file to run for the senate seat in 37th or 8th District seat is Friday, December 11, 2009.
