At approximately 12:52 a.m., Saturday March 28, 2009, Alexandria Fire and EMS units responded to a report of fire in the basement at 37 South Gordon Street, a two story duplex.

Author Mary V. Thompson to Receive 2009 Alexandria History Award
[From: Other News]The Alexandria Historical Society has selected historian and author Mary V. Thompson as the winner of its 2009 Alexandria History Award. The annual Alexandria History Award is given to a person or persons who have made noteworthy contributions to the preservation of the historic, cultural, and artistic heritage of Alexandria. Ms. Thompson, a research historian at Mount Vernon, will be presented with a certificate and gift at a special awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m., at The Lyceum, 201 South Washington Street.
