It has been three weeks since I began making my way back to fitness. This week, I continued my daily workouts at the Y and started morning sit-ups and lunges at home…I have to work harder on the abs.
On Thursday, I added some variety to my fitness routine by going on a bike ride with my friend Scott Newsham. We rented a tandem bicycle at Bike And Roll and rode across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to National Harbor. The sound walls on the approach to the Bridge really are effective. There were trucks no more than five or six feet from us on the other side of the sound wall and the noise was minimal. Stopping in the middle of the Bridge to read the interpretive signs was a surreal experience. National Harbor, too, was an interesting experience for me since I had never visited the development.
When we rode back into Alexandria, we took the bike path extension to Route 1, rode to Belle Haven Country Club, back to the bike path and then to Bike And Roll. The entire trip took under two hours and was delightful. I plan to enlist people to ride with me more often.
So far, I have lost ten pounds and can feel my muscle tone improving in many places. I am eating more fruit and vegetables but am still drinking wine and putting half and half in my morning coffee.
