Today I ran in the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) 5k race that was held in Alexandria. I had been invited to run by Debbie Wells who’s husband has been diagnosed with this disease. Debbie’s team raised the most money for this event, and seemed to bring out the most participants. The race began in front of the Hoffman theatre on Eisenhower and ran out to Cameron Run park and back. I started towards the front and watched as quite a few young kids sprinted out to a fast start. By half a mile I had passed them all and found myself sharing the lead in the women’s race with one other runner. This was a surprise as usually at any race there are one or two fast runners that show up to win. I moved slightly ahead by two miles and held on to win. My time was 23:24, 7:32 per mile pace. Not bad for an old lady!!

This week’s workouts:

Monday: Ran 6 miles with two ½ mile pieces at race pace.

Tuesday: Did the spinning class at the YMCA

Wednesday: Ran 6 miles

Thursday: Drove to the YMCA (raining hard), easy weights and elliptical ½ hour.

Friday: Ran 4 miles and did some extra stretching

Saturday: Ran 2 miles and did weights at the YMCA

Sunday: Race 5k. With warm up 2 miles and cool down 2 miles, total 7 miles.
