New Superintendent, New School Board, Same Old Nonsense

Well, here we go again with the Alexandria School District:  two children not taken home following school – so what does our illustrious Superintendent and School Board decide to do? Why, SET UP ANOTHER TASK FORCE to look at already established policies regarding school children returned home from school. And, of course, neither Dr. Sherman nor School Board Chair Yvonnne Folkers take responsibility for these two recent incidents. Enforce the already existing policies and move on and stop wasting time so you all can “run for cover”.

Folkerts, in a letter to alexandrianews.org suggested that Alexandria taxpayers CANNOT SAY NO to spending more taxpayer dollars for consultants to help fix school programs!!! YES WE CAN. Isn’t this the reason Morton Sherman, Ph.D. was hired? He is supposed to have the experience and expertise to know what to do rather than to hire expensive outside consultants to advise the Alexandria School District whether it relates to attendance, continued high drop-out rates, school attendance, school technology needs, etc.

It is time for the Alexandria School Board to take charge and do the job they were elected/hired to do along with Dr. Sherman, who is being paid way too much money for continued PR. Set educational policies, have Dr. Sherman implement these policies with his “expertise and educational experience” and keep school costs down. Alexandria spends $17,000 per student with a total student population of about 11,000 students. Compare this cost per student to other school districts the size of Alexandria. Stop the NATO – No Action, Talk Only and all of you do your job. Perhaps it is time to have an all appointed school board.
