Senior Services Thanks Sheriff And Deputies For Helping Deliver Meals

To The Editor:

Senior Services of Alexandria offers a huge thank you to Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and his deputies and to Mary Ann Griffin and her staff at the City’s Office on Aging for helping us deliver meals to homebound seniors during the recent snow storm.  Our usual volunteers could just not make deliveries because of the weather.  We called upon the Sheriff and the Office on Aging staff  to assist us in getting these meals to our clients, and they happily and willingly obliged.

Our clients were thrilled to see a friendly face, and to receive a meal after the weekend.  While some of our seniors are just unable to prepare meals for themselves, or have no family in the area, many are on oxygen, in wheelchairs or just plain lonely.  A visitor, and a hot meal make a difference in their day.

Our Meals on Wheels Program provides meals on Monday through Friday, and now through a generous donation from the Ronald M. Bradley Foundation, we have expanded this service to holidays.  Our next goal is to get funding for the weekends.

Again, thank you Sheriff Lawhorne and Ms Griffin, and to all our partners and donors who help Senior Services of Alexandria.  Happy Holidays.

Janet Barnett
