Alexandria Resident New Community Relations Manager

Central Michigan Alumnus, Over 17 years experience working with people with disabilities

Central Fairfax Services, Inc. (CFS) is excited to welcome Alexandria resident James J. Lewis as its newest Community Relations Manager.  He will head up the organization’s Community Relations division, which includes grant support, special events, volunteer management, community outreach and website development.

“CFS is pleased to have hired such an energetic and knowledgeable person for the position of Community Relations Manager,” remarked Jacquelyn Scholl, Human Resources Manager.  “I was impressed with his answer to a question in his interview about how he became familiar with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities … James commented that as a youth his day care provider dragged him (and his sister) to the Michigan Disability Sports Alliance events  in which she volunteered.  Since then, James has been interested in and volunteering his time with sports and fundraising for people with disabilties.”

James is a graduate of Central Michigan University, earning a bachelor of science in history and political science.  While an undergraduate, he oversaw The David Garcia Project, a disability awareness program through the Volunteer Center.  He was also the former Executive Director of the Michigan Disability Sports Alliance, and a former member of the National Disability Sports Alliance Board of Directors.  Currently, he is enrolled at The Catholic University of America, working towards a Master of Science degree in Management, with a concentration in Leadership.  He also serves as the Treasurer of the Graduate Student Association at CUA.

During his first week at CFS, James has finalized the Annual Winter Holiday Appeal, our organization’s annual fundraising initiative.  Members of the community interested in supporting the programs and services currently offered at CFS are encouraged to visit our website at www.centralfairfaxservices.org.  The website is also currently being redesigned; with a new look pending release to the general public.

“James brings with him high energy, which is contagious to all he comes in contact with, and a strong knowledge of our population base,” explained Jeff Kotlyn, Chief Financial Officer.  “He has hit the ground running, offering new ideas and changes to enhance the image and name of CFS.”

Central Fairfax Services, Inc. is a day program providing developmental services, vocational training, sheltered workshop and supported employment to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Services include speech therapy, rehabilitation engineering, physical therapy, nursing, occupational therapy, personal care, wheelchair maintenance, and behavior management.
