Band Honor
The T.C. Williams High School Symphonic 1 Band earned the Music Festivals National Concert Band Award for receiving the highest score of any band to perform at more than 20 performance sites across the eastern seaboard this spring.

Summer Change
In order to maximize and enhance students’ summer school experience, Alexandria City Public Schools will extend by one week the summer school program for special education students. The program will begin on July 6 and end on July 31.

Work Session
Findings from a special education study conducted by a Virginia Association of School Superintendents audit team will be presented to the Alexandria City School Board in a work session at the School Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. Planetarium Show
Registration opens June 1 for the fifth “A Night With the Stars” monthly T.C. Williams High School Planetarium show, scheduled for June 23. Doors will open at 7 p.m. for “The Reasons for the Seasons: A Walk Across the Summer Sky,” which will run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All Alexandria Reads 2009 Program Finale – The Alexandria Library closes its latest community reading event with a story time featuring local author Mary Quattlebaum at 11 a.m. at the Barnes & Noble at Potomac Yards, 3651 Jefferson Davis Hwy. This event also kicks off the Barnes & Noble Bookfair in support of Alexandria Library’s 2010 All Alexandria Reads program. A voucher that donates a portion of all Barnes & Noble purchases to this program is available www.alexandria.lib.va.us . Show the voucher to the cashier Saturday through Friday, June 5, at any Barnes & Noble in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.
