Keeping you informed about happenings around Alexandria City Public Schools
It’s Mad Hatter Day, so named because the Mad Hatter in the original “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” illustrations wears an oversized top hat adorned with a slip of paper that reads “In this style 10/6.” Computer technicians in Boulder, Col., started the holiday in 1986 as a celebration of silliness. Embrace this wacky premise tonight by donning goofy hats, reading funny poetry and throwing a crazy tea party for supper.
Walk to School
Don’t forget to celebrate the 13th annual International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 7. ACPS activities include a visit to George Mason Elementary School by Joseph S. Toole, associate administrator of the Office of Safety, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA); and Rebecca Crowe, Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program Manager, FHWA. The FHWA officials will walk to school with a group of George Mason students as part of a “walking school bus,” a group of children supervised by adults while walking to school.
