October has been a mixed month for T. C. Williams High School athletic teams. On Thursday, Oct. 1, the field hockey team defeated Annandale, 1-0. On Friday, Oct. 2, the Titan football team traveled to Patriot District rival West Springfield. T. C. lost in a heartbreaker, 15-14. On Oct. 5, the field hockey was in action against Lake Braddock. T. C. lost, 3-1.
The T. C. field hockey team will face Robert E. Lee at home tonight at 7:30. The Titan football team will play Annandale at Annandale on Friday, Oct. 9. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Crosscountry
The T.C. Williams cross-country team was at Episcopal yesterday to compete in the Alexandria City Championships. This yearly competition pits the Titans against runners from Episcopal, Bishop Ireton and St. Stephen/St. Agnes high schools. New this year was chip timing,official results and announcing by Pacers running store.
Episcopal came in first in the boys varsity division with 25 points, T.C. Williams was second with 54 and Bishop Ireton third with 58.
Standouts for the Titans were Darren Foreman, 2nd, 17:07; Patrick Murphy, 6th, 17:38; and Nick Ahumada, 8th, 17:51.
The girls varsity competition was very close with Episcopal winning with 27 points and T.C. second with 28 points. Bishop Ireton was a distant third with 92 points.
The top Titan girls varsity runners were Shannon Smythe, who won the race in a time of 20:11; Adunga Desalgn, 3rd, 20:46; Katie Newsham, 5th, 20:59; Lisa Toledo, 9th, 21:22; and Hanna Clark, 10th, 21:30.
T.C. runners took the first place individual honors in both the boys and girls JV races. Eight-grader Nick Brown won for the boys in a time of 18:18, and Katherine Hendley took the girls race in a time of 22:52.
Volleyball
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Chantilly Chargers came calling and trampled the Titans, 3-0.
There were few highlights for the Titans although they kept the first game of the match respectable, losing, 25-15. After that, it was all downhill. The Titans dropped the second game, 25-6, and the third, 25-7. T. C.’s record is now 4-5.
On Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, the Titans will compete in the All-City Tournament. Bishop Ireton High School will play Episcopal at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by T. C. vs. St. Stephens & St. Agnes at 6:00 p.m. The winners of those games will play at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, preceded by the consolation match at 4:30 p.m. All of the games will be held at St. Stephens & St. Agnes School.
