The Titan basketball teams opened the 2009-10 season last night against former Patriot District rival Hayfield. The girls won at home, 50-29, and the boys lost at
Hayfield, 57-49.
The Titan girls were never behind, opening a first quarter 15-7 lead. By the end of the half, T. C. had extended their lead to 21-12. Junior Jasmine Norman led all scorers with 12 points, followed by her teammate, junior Sade’ Barber, who contributed eight points.
The Titans doubled their point production in the second half and won, 50-29. They will travel to West Springfield for a Patriot District contest on Friday night. Game time is 7:45.
The Boys went to Hayfield and did not fare as well as the girls, losing, 57-49. T. C., was outscored 14-8 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Titans rallied and had a 23-21 lead going into halftime. T. C. maintained a slim lead throughout the third quarter but could not overcome a 22-point Hawk fourth quarter.
T. C. senior Billy Rowland led all scorers with 21 points but got into early foul trouble. Titan senior Ryan Yates hit two three-pointers and finished the night with 14 points. Unfortunately, back court play was a problem for the Titans, who are looking for leadership.
T. C. will host West Springfield at The Garden on Friday night. Game time is 7:45.
