An Alexandria teen remains in critical condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital after being hit by a car while trying to escape from a Pit Bull.

Alexandria police were called to the scene of the accident at just after noon on Friday, July 24. A 14-year-old Alexandria boy was riding his skateboard on Duke Street on his way to the Skate Park. When he passed a home between South Early and South Ingram Streets, a Pit Bull began chasing him. The boy ran onto the median but, when the dog continued chasing him, he ran into Duke Street traffic and was hit by a car. The driver remained at the scene.

Charges are pending against the owner of the dog and, although the investigation is ongoing, a police spokesperson said that it is unlikely that the driver of the car will be charged. The boy was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he remains in critical condition. The dog was taken into custody by animal control.
